It was bound to happen right? The temperature around the country has officially broken the 90 degree point and now that means it’s officially top-down weather. Time to feature some of the best convertibles that $5,000 can buy!
The research that went into this list was not an easy task since there are only so many convertibles out there, we had to rank them as being the “BEST” on a few factors, one that was most notably their reliability. After that factor, we took into consideration overall demand and performance metrics like mileage and handling. Most importantly, we sifted through reviews and rankings to add in one more metric: FUN factor.
Here we go, tune in for pictures of these cars as they are coming up shortly from our graphics department.
1996 – 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio – Not only featured on our main home page image this month, this is also probably our favorite to drive and own overall. Low maintenance requirements, great gas mileage and peppy for a little 4 cylinder it packs.
1996 – 2001 Mazda Miata (MX-5) – A very close 2nd place was this masterpiece of Japanese engineering, the Mazda Miata is not only peppy with its 1.8 liter engine, the ride quality is as if it’s on rails. The tires and suspension hug the road in the sharpest turns. If you find one of these in good shape, you will not be disappointed!
Other Notable Mentions:
2000-2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spider, 2002-2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible.
